    Simple Ribbon Headband

    • A length of ribbon, some thin elastic and a needle and thread is all you need to create a simple headband to match any outfit. Choose a satin or grosgrain ribbon that is no more than 2 inches wide, and about 20 inches long. Place the ribbon around your head (or whoever will be wearing the headband) and position the ribbon how you would like it to fit. Trim the ribbon, making it 2 or 3 inches shorter than the length needed to fit your head. Trim a piece of elastic long enough to make the ribbon fit snugly. Fold the ends of the ribbon over the ends of the elastic and attach with a few stitches, making sure the ribbon and elastic are securely attached .

    Ribbon-Wrapped Headband

    • A spool of ribbon can jazz up any plain store-bought headband. Begin at one end of the headband, and use a drop of strong liquid adhesive, such as hot glue. Wrap the ribbon around the headband tightly, taking care to avoid bunching the ribbon. To keep the ribbon secure, add a tiny drop of adhesive on the headband each time you wrap the ribbon around the band. When you reach the end of the headband, trim the ribbon and use more glue to keep the ribbon in place. Wear the headband as is, or embellish with flowers, rhinestones or other craft supplies.

    Ribbon Rosettes

    • Embellish a plain headband, or one wrapped with ribbon, with a handmade ribbon rosette. Cut a circle from felt to use as the base of the ribbon rosette. With a needle and coordinating thread, sew a running stitch through the ribbon, and pull the ends to gather the ribbon slightly. Cover the felt circle with a thin layer of liquid adhesive, and beginning on the outside edge, adhere the gathered ribbon around the felt in a spiral pattern until you reach the inside of the rosette. Adhere a button, large rhinestone or brad to the center of the rosette. Once the adhesive dries, attach the rosette to the headband with a strong adhesive.

    Baby Headband

    • Make a sweet baby headband with a grosgrain ribbon and elastic. Cut two lengths of ribbon, slightly longer then the length needed to wrap around your baby's head. Sew the ribbons together on the long edges, leaving an opening on one side for the elastic. Cut the elastic so that it is slightly shorter than the length of ribbon, and run it through the ribbon casing. Sew the ends together to make the headband, and adjust the ribbon so that it is evenly ruched along the elastic. Embellish as desired with flowers or bows.
