    • 1). Insert a pry bar between the interior window trim and the wall. Use the pry bar to pull the trim away from the wall and set it aside. Move to the outside and remove any exterior trim around the window in the same way.

    • 2). Place a reciprocating saw blade between the old window frame and the window buck. Cut through all the nails holding the window in place. Slide the window out of the opening. If the window is stuck, cut through the center of the window's bottom sill with the reciprocating saw and pull the window out of the opening.

    • 3). Check the buck for any rot or damage. Peel off the loose sealant from the buck's corners. Apply a new bead of masonry sealant over each of the corners. Paint a liquid flashing on the bottom board and approximately six inches up both side boards. Allow the liquid flashing to dry according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 4). Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the window frame's nailing flange. Lift the window into the opening and center it. Press the nailing flange tight against the buck. Drive a roofing nail through the bottom nailing hole in the window's right-hand-side nailing flange.

    • 5). Hold a level against the window and adjust it so it sits plumb in the opening. Insert wooden shims between the window frame and the buck to hold the window in place. Keep the shims at least six inches from the window frame's top and bottom edges and space the shims no more than eight inches apart.

    • 6). Drive roofing nails through the window's nailing flange to hold the window in place. Space the nails no more than eight inches apart. Keep all nails at least three inches away from the window frame's corners.

    • 7). Score along the exposed shims with a utility knife. Bend the shims back and forth to break them off flush with the window frame's surface.
