Lay out all the ingredients on a large working surface. Before beginning, move the oven rack to the center position and preheat the oven to 150 degrees.

Measure the flour, coffee grinds, salt and sand into a large mixing bowl. The suggested measurements will make six large treasure rocks. Depending on the size and quantity of rocks needed, you may need to double the ingredients. Blend the ingredients together with your hands. If you choose to add glitter or powdered paint to enhance the color of the treasure rocks, add it to the dry ingredients at this time.

Pour a small amount of water into the dry mixture. Continue to gradually add water and knead the dough until it thickens into a bread dough consistency.

Gather a small amount of dough in your hands and form it into a ball. Treasure rocks can be made into any desired size or shape. Place the dough ball on an ungreased baking sheet.

Poke your finger into the center of the rock and place the small treasure in the hole. Fold the dough around the treasure until it is completely covered. Treasures should be small plastic toys, play jewelry or other objects that will not be damaged by the wet dough or water.

Bake the treasure rocks in the oven for about 30 minutes. The rock dough will start to flatten out on the baking sheet so it's necessary to continually reshape it as it dries. Every five to 10 minutes, pull the rocks out of the oven and gently mold them back into the desired shape. As the dough hardens, the treasure rocks will hold their form.

Allow treasure rocks to continue to air-dry until they become rock hard. If weather permits, set them in the sun to speed up the drying process. The treasure rocks will be completely dry within two or three days.
