Pop Can Robot Crafts

    Box Body

    • Wrap a small cardboard box in aluminum foil, creating smooth folds and even tape lines where necessary. Create the robot's arms, legs and head using five pop cans cleaned with soap and water. Coat the surface of the pop cans with silver craft paint (or spray paint) and add stripes or lines with a black permanent marker. Use Super Glue to attach two upright pop cans to the bottom of the box for the robot's legs while doing the same for the robots arms on the left and right sides of the box. Attach the last pop can, either on its side or in an upright position, to the top of the box for the robot's head. Use a permanent marker to draw the robot's mouth and attach googly eyes to complete the face.

    Straw Arms

    • Use drinking straws to create elongated arms for your robot. Coat two straws and two clean pop cans with metallic spray or craft paint. Cut a small, horizontal slit in the left and right sides of an upright pop can then insert a straw into each side so that the short, bent ends are facing inward. Apply craft glue for extra support once the straws have been inserted. Place the second pop can on its side and attach it with glue to the top of the body. Draw or attach the eyes and mouth.

    Robotic Pet

    • Create an animal-inspired robot by wrapping a small box in aluminum foil and laying it lengthwise on a flat surface. Glue four painted pop cans (drinking side up) to the bottom of the box near the corners. Add the head by gluing another pop can, turned sideways, to the box in front of the four legs. Glue two (or more) googly eyes to the face and attach bolts to the top of the pop can for ears. Use straightened paperclips for whiskers, a sequin or button for the nose and a colored pipe cleaner for the tail.

    Land Rover

    • Use eight cleaned and painted pop cans as wheels for your robot. Wrap a cereal box in aluminum foil and lay it lengthwise on a flat surface. Glue the pop cans to the bottom of the box horizontally so that the open tops of the cans are facing inward toward one another. Create the rover's arms by cutting a small slit in the left and right sides of the box near the front and inserting painted straws, short, bent end first, in each slit. Add googly eyes to the front of the box. Use a straightened paperclip with a bead glued to the end for your robot's antenna and attach it to the front or back of the body.
