Costa Rica ranked the happiest country in the world
Costa Rica is the happiest country in the world, followed by the Dominican Republic, according to a recent report of happiness and satisfaction in life, from a British organization, The Happy Planet Index published by the New Economics Foundation, based in the UK, combines measures of life expectancy, happiness and ecological footprint to assess the sustainability of growth. The study included 143 countries that make 99% of the population of the world.
Costa Rica was the top overall ranking with a combination of long and happy life with limited environmental degradation. The report considered features such as the beautiful mixture inside a large diversity of species and the fact that we have long been rid of the army.
The merger of the ministries of energy and environment reversed the deforestation and helped the country produce 99% of its energy from renewable sources. It also presented high notes, compared to other developing countries in research on poverty, free press and democracy. Western countries have long life expectancy and people are reasonably happy, but the countries have low ranking due to its ecological weakness, reflecting the high level of consumption. The challenge for the West, says the report, is still raising the revenue but find a life more meaningful and stronger social ties.
The Happy Planet Index is an index of human well-being and environmental impact that was introduced by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) in July 2006. The index is designed to challenge well-established indices of countries? development, such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the Human Development Index (HDI).
The second place is occupied by the Dominican Republic, followed by Australia, and the United States got the place 114 and Zimbabwe is in the last place 143. In the previous report in 2006, Costa Rica was second after Vanuatu in Oceania. The index uses three variables for its classification: Life expectancy, level of satisfaction and the ecological practices.
In Costa Rica, life expectation is 78.5 years old, and 85% of the Costa Ricans interviewed said that they are happy and satisfied with their lives, and the country is very closet o reach the balance between what is consumed and what the natural resources offer. It is the more prosperous and the most stable country in Central America, as stated by the report.
The report also added that the life expectancy in Costa Rica is the second highest in the world, surpassed only by Canada.
This report highlights the fact that Costa Rica is a very peaceful country, with great flora and fauna, protected areas, where people are PURA VIDA, kind and courteous.
