Fun Things to Do in Chicago
I lived there for seven years while I was a graduate student at the University of Chicago.
I have also visited there many times.
Among my favorite places to visit in Chicago are the Art Institute, the University of Chicago, the Adler Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum of Natural History.
Chicago also has plenty of great restaurants, bars, and blues clubs.
I first visited Chicago with my girlfriend in 1982.
We spent about five days there and had a great time.
We went to Second City, a very funny comedy club.
Lots of big comedians got their start on Second City, including Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, and Bill Murray.
We also went to the Art Institute, which has the best collection of impressionist art I've seen outside of Paris.
I lived in Chicago from 1985 to 1992 while attending the University of Chicago in Hyde Park, on the south side, about eight miles south of downtown.
The University of Chicago is a beautiful campus, modeled after Cambridge University in England.
Most of it was funded by John D.
Rockefeller, the famous oil tycoon.
Chicago has many great restaurants of nearly every ethnic group.
It is also famous for its deep dish pizza.
My favorite pizza place in Chicago is Giordanno's, located on Michigan Avenue.
Another great restaurant is Berghoff's, a famous old German restaurant on Adams Street downtown.
Chicago is well-known for its blues and jazz music.
Two of my favorite blues bars are Buddy Guys, located on 7th Street downtown, and Sullivan's, located nearby.
Both serve superb food along with their music.
