    Minor Side Effects

    • Highly common minor side effects of Cidofovir are appetite loss, nausea, throwing up, diarrhea and headache. Less common minor side effects of the medicine are strength loss, and a general feeling of weakness. If any of these side effects become troublesome, or if they persist, you should let your physician know.

    Serious Side Effects

    • Some side effects of Cidofovir are potentially more serious and require emergency medical assistance, including urinating with less frequency, urinating with more frequency, increased thirst, chills, sore throat and fever.

    Uncommon Side Effects

    • Cidofovir also can lead to rare side effects. If you notice any uncommon side effects of the medicine, you should get medical attention. These uncommon side effects include lessened vision, and any vision changes at all.

    Cancer

    • Cidofovir can result in cancer in animals. Though it is unconfirmed, there is a possibility that it could lead to the development of cancer in humans as well. Therefore, if you notice any serious side effects of Cidofovir, you should discuss them in detail with your doctor. Serious kidney and blood problems are also a possible side effect.

    Drug Interactions

    • People should be very careful when taking Cidofovir simultaneously with other medications, due to the possibility of drug interactions. Some medicines that could cause drug interactions with Cidofovir are gold salts (arthritis medication), carmustine, combination pain medications, lithium, penicillamine, cyclosporine, cisplatin, deferoxamine, anti-infectives, tiopronin and streptozocin.
