Spark Plug Exhaust Tips

    • A spark plug plays a significant role in internal combustion. It helps the engine generate power from the combustion of gases in the chamber, igniting a mixture of air and fuel. The spark plug sits atop the cylinder. The spark plug's tip sits in the engine's interior while the other end attaches to the spark plug wire and remains outside the engine. The spark plug wire connects the spark plug and the distributor. Maintain the spark plug properly to ensure the exhaust system functions properly.

    Removing Spark Plug Covers

    • If you are using a 17mm, open-ended spanner to remove the spark plug, counterbalance the leverage you are applying in order to ensure that the cover does come off. If you don't, you may cause the cover to be pushed down all the more, thus making it more difficult to remove. Give the spark plug covers a tweak in order to rotate them and ease your attempt to take them off. When working on the driver's side, always cover the exhaust heat shield's top. It contains a very sharp tip that could injure your hands.

    General Tips

    • Don'tattempt to change spark plugs in an engine that has not cooled down. Otherwise, you may burn yourself and cause damage to the head of the engine.

Once the engine is cool, the simplest way to change spark plugs and wires is to work on them one at a time. Some plug wires will come numbered or designated with a specific code in order to make replacements a breeze. Simply follow the correct order for easy replacement.

    Know the Firing Order

    • The firing order refers to the vehicle's sequence of the cylinder's fuel injection or the sequence of the spark plug sparking. Obtaining the correct order may be difficult, but it is absolutely crucial to vehicle performance. Knowing the correct firing order of a vehicle is especially important if you are working on spark plugs, the ignition, spark plug wires, caps, timing and distributors. If you don't know the correct firing order, you can obtain it from any dealership that sells your model car, or at local mechanic shops and parts stores.
