A car show is a public exhibition of automobiles, ranging from classic rides to flashy new models to concept cars, giving car manufacturers and dealers the chance to connect with the public. The San Diego area has a number of different car shows for auto enthusiasts interested in buying or car or for the curious who just want a chance to see the latest models up close. - The San Diego International Auto Show takes place every year at the end of December and beginning of January at the San Diego Convention Center. The New Car Dealers Association San Diego County owns and operates the show, which features hundreds of new-model vehicles and concept and specialty cars, trucks and vans. Visitors can also enjoy street performances, custom car exhibitions and vendors selling aftermarket parts.

It features everything from vintage motorcycles to hybrids to European imports rolling through the city along Fifth Avenue. Organizers will announce the show's "People's Choice Award" for the favorite car on display. More than 10,000 people showed up for the first show in 2009; the show is free to the public. The show's website allows those interested to apply to showcase their own car at the event.

The event showcases hot rods, imports and classic cars, along with live music. The cars are parked all along U.S. Highway 101 and on side streets in Encinitas, allowing visitors to wander the town looking for different models.

The show only features cars from before 1973, with the exception of new cars displayed by sponsor dealerships. The village itself has a small-town look with antiques stores and locally owned restaurants. The show attracts thousands of spectators each week.

lmvma.com - Nearby Escondido features the "Cruisin' Grand" classic car event with more than 400 classic cars and 5,000 to 8,000 visitors every Friday night during the summer months. The show highlights American-made pre-1973 cars, which pack the streets in downtown Escondido's commercial district. The show also offers some extras, such as Hula Hoop, Twist and "Name That Tune" contests. The Cruisin' Grand information booth has a dining guide for hungry visitors.
