How to Make the Screamo Voice
- 1). Learn how to sing properly in order to sing the melodic elements of screamo. Screamo usually involves the use of melodic singing intertwined with screaming. Take proper lessons from a vocal coach to make sure you can sing melodically and in key whenever necessary. Practice singing in various keys holding out notes to make sure you have strength when singing these emotional passages.
- 2). Learn the correct way to breathe. Breathing, both the process of inhaling and exhaling, are essential to improving the abilities of any singer in any style. The better you can control your breath, the better you will sound. Practice blowing a feather in the air to see how well controlled you can be with your exhalations. Be conscious of the air as it enters your lungs and allow it to go deep within your lungs as far down as possible.
- 3). Warm up properly in order to handle the stress of singing in the screamo style. Sing along with vocal warm up tapes or CD's for at least 40 minutes before singing and practice your screaming as well. Maintaining your practice routine every time you are ready to sing will allow your vocal cords to be loosened up and prevent any damage.
- 4). Drink warm fluids before, during and after singing. Warm liquids such as tea and water can help loosen up your vocal cords and work well in conjunction with warm-up exercises and allow you to continue to sing in this style for many years. Avoid cold water on stage, if necessary, drink room temperature water to preserve your voice during the show.
- 5). Get plenty of rest the night before any live performances. Screamo is one of the most emotional types of singing and employs anger as well as beauty, so the more rest you get, the more energy you can put into your performance. Most screamo musicians have a lot of stage presence, so you must be rested enough to be able to run around on stage while performing a vocal style that is very hard on the throat.
