    • 1). Make sure your computer's modem is plugged into a land line. You cannot use Windows Fax and Scan to send a fax over the Internet, so your modem must be plugged into an outside phone line.

    • 2). Click the Start button, and in the search field under "All Programs," search for the word "Fax." Double click on the Windows Fax and Scan icon that appears in the search results.

    • 3). Click the "New Fax" icon in the upper left hand corner of the Fax and Scan window.

    • 4). Enter the 10-digit phone number you wish to send the fax to in the "TO" field.

    • 5). Click the paperclip icon on the toolbar to insert the file you wish to fax. Navigate to the folder you have stored your faxable document in and select it. Click the "Attach" button. Enter a subject in the "Subject" text area so the person receiving your fax will know who sent it and click "Send." Your computer will now send a fax using its modem to the specified phone number.
