Lose Weight and Keep It Off

Oftentimes when people are trying to lose weight they start a program that requires them to commit to an unrealistic diet. Usually there is a promise that they will lose a lot of weight within a short period of time. While it is true that fad diets can cause you to lose a lot of weight quickly, it is equally true that once you return to your regular eating habits you will regain all of the weight you lost and even gain an extra few pounds. If you want to lose weight and keep the weight off then you must follow a balanced plan that provides you with the proper nutrition you need.

A good diet should provide you with a balance of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. The recommended percentage of each will vary person to person particularly if you are struggling with a health complication like diabetes. In general, however, dietitians recommend that you stick to a diet that is low in fat (under 20%) if you want to lose weight. For proper nutrition, protein shouldn't be more than 30% of your total calories which will leave 50% for carbohydrates. Now that may sound like a lot of carbohydrates. Remember, though, that category also includes vegetables and fruits.

In fact, you should eat as many fruits and vegetables as you possibly can. The daily amount recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is 2 to 4 servings of each. Fruits and vegetables are packed with the vitamins and minerals needed by your body to function properly. For example, carrots are packed with Vitamin A which is necessary for good vision. Try to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Since they tend to be low in calories you can eat more of them which can go a long way towards helping you control your appetite.

Proper nutrition is key to weight loss and life-long health and well-being. It is almost impossible to get all of the vital nutrients your body needs every day. Taking an all-natural multivitamin will help you bridge the gap and optimize your nutrition. Always remember the lean proteins and whole grains.
