How to Search Google for PDF Files Only

    Use Advanced Search Options

    • 1). Click "Advanced Search" in the Google home page.

    • 2). Type the text you want to search for. You can search for all words that you type, for a specific word or phrase or for one or more words that you specify. You can also type words that you want to exclude from the search.

    • 3). From the File Type drop-down box, select "Adobe Acrobat PDF (.pdf)."

    • 4). Select other search options as appropriate, such as how many results you want to display per page, and click "Advanced Search." Google returns results for only PDF files.

    Search for PDFs in a Query

    • 1). Navigate to the Google home page.

    • 2). Type the text for which you want to search in the appropriate format and include the text "filetype.pdf" in the search query.

      For example, to find PDF files that contain either "football" or "baseball," type the query:

      "football or baseball filetype.pdf"

    • 3). Press "Enter" on your keyboard or click "Google Search." Google returns results for PDF files only.
