Do I deserve this kind of life? Am I competent? Everyone wants to reach the top so desperately, but for many of us this it never seems to come any closer. This article will tackle on how to overcome depression from failures and how to regain self esteem.
In psychology, self esteem is a term which means €to reflect a person's overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth.€ It simply means a feeling of pride in yourself. It is conceived as an attitude toward the self and is similar to a judgment of yourself. Primarily, this determines your outlook in life and affects your personal perception of the things, people, and happenings around you.
We are born balanced. With no high or low self esteem. Just fulfilled. But as we grow, we experience success and failures in life. In most cases, we started losing our self esteem when we start tasting failures in life which create fears. A failure comes in different ways and in different fields. You receive failures in every stage of your life.
Childhood is playtime, and sets the stage for early learning failure. During high school, you begin to attract the opposite sex, become attached, and go through heartbreaks. In college, failing grades is something causes fears and failures. When you get married, you will experience financial and emotional instability. When someone dies you feel grief. See, these are just few problems that can inturn lower your self esteem
Then, what will happen if you lose your self esteem?
€ Losing you. This means that you don't really know what you feel. You feel confused about the result of your actions because you have a heavy heart.
€ You refuse to acknowledge what you really want and fulfill the expectations of others.
€ You become more concerned about your physical appearance. This is not a bad habit, but this becomes undesirable if you dress up for others. As they can see you are pretending to be someone you are not.
€ Lose control of your heath. When you are depressed, you tend to eat all your comfort foods. Or you stop eating all together. Not giving your body the energy to fight will reduce your self esteem
€ You dismiss your ideas and opinions. Sometimes you do this to avoid offending others or the fear of rejection
€ You stop taking risks. It happens to someone who is afraid to fail again. This is usually because your past experience had made you so vulnerable.. When you became afraid of taking risk, you miss all kinds of opportunities.
Let's now discuss on how to regain your self esteem.
€ Know that you feel the way you do because you try to live up to others expectations rather than being your true authentic self. This is called subordination, When we subordinate to others we put them on a pedestal and ourselves in the pit. It is certainly not because you are at fault or lacking anything. You are perfect the way you are.
€ Surround yourself with people who are doing things that align with your purpose, values, visions and goals.
€ Be more vocal. In times that you have problem, you share it to your friends so that they can understand what you feel and they can comfort you.
€ Know your strength and excel in it. Always do the things that you think you are the good at. Something that can make you feel intelligent, generous, responsible and loving. This will lift up your spirit.
€ Make yourself more productive. Use your sad memories around to work for you. What opportunities have arisen from your challenges in life. Go out and make yourself happy in your own simple way.
€ Protect your health. Eat healthy food that will make you become sexier and prettier.
€ Set yourself reasonable goals with an action plan. Setting an action plan is how it all comes together. Plan for the future and become successful.
