How to Download a Video From the Web to the Desktop
- 1). Check your hard drive to see if it has enough space to store your downloaded videos. A downloaded video, depending on its type and size may consume a huge amount of megabytes or gigabytes in your drive. If your computer does not have enough space for new files, you may opt to purchase an external hard drive to store your videos.
- 2). Install anti-virus protection for your computer and ensure it is functioning well and is constantly updated. Viruses can penetrate your system through downloaded movies. Activate your anti-virus software before starting any download.
- 3). Open your browser and find videos through different video-sharing sites, such as YouTube, Google Video, MySpace, MetaCafe, Veoh, DailyMotion and many other related sites.
- 4). Get the video's URL or the link from the address bar. Highlight the entire link and press "Ctrl" + "C" or right-click and select "Copy."
- 5). Open a web-based video downloader such as Vixy.net, ClipNabber.com and KeepVid.com. You can use any of these web applications to download videos from video-sharing sites. For example, go to www.vixy.net, copy the URL of the video you would like to download and paste it on the site's URL field.
- 6). Select the type of format in which you want your downloaded video to be stored. Typically, videos are downloaded in their Flash Video or .flv format, although there are other formats available, such as MPEG and MP4.
- 7). Click "Start" and wait until a separate window pops up. Select "Save to disk" and click "OK." Wait until the download is complete. Open the video using your media player and start your video playback.
