Be Here, Be Now is Self Esteem

Too often we have issues with having confidence due to one factor - over thinking things.
Our minds are wonderful machines, able to make tremendous calculations for activities like surfing or tennis.
These sports and so many like them demand quick reactions and speedy actions.
The same rapid functioning can be seen in our thinking about various topics.
With our very inventive minds, we can think of many, many scenarios to so many situations.
The difficulty is that the myriad of thoughts we generate in "what if" thinking are just speculations about the future.
And, as with any other speculations (when will real estate do well and where, anyone?), these thoughts are only thoughts, not actual predictions.
By that I mean that our predictions about the future are highly incorrect.
Research has indicated that 98% of our anticipatory thoughts never happen.
To deal with our highly speculative mind, to build our self-esteem and confidence, we need to keep our thinking focused on being her and being now.
By allowing ourselves to live in the present and not be caught up with our failures in the past (no, I didn't have enough money hanging around in this depressed housing market to make a killing even though I did know it was coming) or our worries and concerns about tomorrow, we need to stay focused on what is occurring around us now.
Doing this is much easier to say than to do.
However, many of my clients report that their anxieties or depressions are usually much less noticeable while they are working.
These types of comments suggests that these individuals are busy while at work and do not have much if any time to think about their problems.
However, on the drive home or at home, they suddenly have extra time and quickly feel very anxious or sad, and self-critical.
Self-confidence is partially a function of not being self critical.
For example, one reason all those positive affirmations may work is that you just aren't thinking negative things about yourself.
You probably could be chanting something like, "My dog has fleas and I like their color," and have the same effect.
