How to Make a Felt Rose Headband
- 1). Measure and cut out a strip of felt that is 1 inch wide and 4 inches long. Cut a series of 1/2-inch-long curves along one edge. This is the piece for the center of the rose.
- 2). Thread a needle with the same color thread as the felt. Coil the straight end of the strip tightly so the other end resembles a rose bud, or the tightly coiled center of a real rose. Stitch around the straight end of the center of the rose (which will be the bottom of the rose) to keep it tightly coiled. Run the needle and thread back and forth in one spot about six times to secure it; trim the excess thread.
- 3). Measure a 1-inch-wide circle on the felt, mark it with a pen and cut it out. Draw five petals within the felt circle, as if you were drawing a flower with petals extending from the center of the circle. Leave a 1/4-inch-wide circle intact in the center of the circle and cut along the lines you drew to reveal the shapes of the petals. This is the first layer of petals on your rose.
- 4). Place the bottom of the center of the felt rose in the middle of the first layer of petals. Hold the pieces of felt together with a pin and fold the bottoms of the petals up against the sides of the center of the rose. Run stitches around the bottom of the sides to hold them in place and keep them folded up.
- 5). Measure a 2-inch-wide circle on the felt, cut it out and draw 10 petals within this circle to create the outer layer of petals. Cut along the lines to cut out the shapes of the petals.
- 6). Place the middle of the felt rose in the center of the outer layer of petals and pin them together. Fold up from the bottom, and sew the outer layer to the inner layer with a line of stitches running all the way around the bottom of the sides.
- 7). Apply a pea-sized amount of epoxy adhesive to the side of the felt rose and press it against the top of a headband, closer to one side of the headband. Wait 24 hours for the epoxy adhesive to dry completely before wearing the felt rose headband.
