How to Choose a Front Door Design
Instructions
1Decide if you want your front door to let sunlight in. You may have to choose between beautiful glass and safety. In general, designs with glass insets are more vulnerable to burglary than solid doors, although smaller glass insets set far enough away from handles and locks make it more difficult to break in.
2
Choose a door that enhances the look of your house. If your house has a strong, particular architectural style, the front door should be of that style also.
3
Match the color of the front door with the trim on the house if the trim is painted to stand out and make a statement. Or, if it doesn't disturb the cohesive look of the front of the house, paint the door a contrasting color. Interestingly, in both Feng Shui -- the ancient Chinese method of using color and placement to draw life energies -- and early America, a red front door means "Welcome" ... but in Feng Shui, the red door must face south.
