Removing Scorch Marks From Wood Flooring
- 1). Use the edge of rough sandpaper to sand out the inside of the scorch mark, removing all the blackened material.
- 2). Sand the inside of the area again, using fine sandpaper, to get the surface smooth and clean. Blow out the dust.
- 3). Press wood putty into the gouge with a putty knife, using the flat end to flatten the putty.
- 4). Let the putty set 12 hours.
- 5). Sand the putty very lightly with the fine sandpaper. Blow off the dust.
- 6). Spread a thin, light layer of polyurethane over the putty. Let it dry for six hours. Lightly degloss the surface with your fine sandpaper. Blow off the dust. Brush on a second layer of polyurethane. Let it dry for 12 hours before walking on it.
