How to Wrap Bandages
- 1). Apply ice to the injured area. Ice will reduce swelling. It should be applied to the injury at intervals of no more than 20 minutes a time.
- 2). Unravel the bandage and position yourself comfortably. Be sure you can safely access the injured area before you attempt to begin the wrapping. If you cannot safely wrap the bandage alone you should ask for help from a friend or family member.
- 3). Wrap the bandage around the limb twice to form a base. You should form the base at the smallest part of the area.
- 4). Wrap the next layer overlapping the base. Begin wrapping by slanting the bandage upward.
- 5). Form a figure eight pattern with the bandage. Continue to weave the bandage directly on the injured area and the area around it. Be very gentle, to avoid further aggravating the injury. If wrapping an ankle, be sure to leave the heel open.
- 6). Secure the bandage. After you finish wrapping the bandage ,you must secure it in place with medical tape or small metal clips, or by forming a knot with the ends.
