Of course, even those who do have the condition, the results and complications of being diabetic may not be well understood.
The diabetic foot ulcer is one such result or complication that can occur in a diabetic patient.
The diabetic foot ulcer is a large indicator of one the misunderstood side effects of diabetes.
It is a very severe problem to have, while they are misconceived to be just a highly uncomfortable irritation, the truth of the matter is that when the ulcer is present on the foot of a diabetic, amputation is a major possibility.
When it comes to the treatment of a diabetic foot ulcer, the best treatment is preventive maintenance.
That is, keep the ulcer form forming in the first place.
While the preventive measures are not entirely easy, they are able to be performed with minimal effort and help.
The most common preventive measure is, if one has diabetes, to have regular check ups with a podiatrist so as to have one's feet examined for the possible presence of a diabetic foot ulcer.
If the doctor can find the ulcers at an early stage, treatment can be initiated and the problem dealt with before it becomes severe.
There are shoes available to diabetics which may not be seen walking down the catwalks of London or Milan, but do play a vital role of keeping the foot protected and thus reducing the risk of developing a foot ulcer.
No matter what the condition, action to sustain a healthy body is always recommended in every individual.
There are no 100% miracle cures or preventions to keeping ulcers at bay, but if enough safeguards are put in place, and patients are sensible then many of the risks are reduced to a more palatable level.
