Amarok is one of the most popular music players in the Linux community. It is designed to integrate with the Linux desktop environment KDE and offers a wide range of functions that you would expect from a state-of-the-art audio player.

One of Amarok's strengths is its ability to manage large music collections, allowing you to keep track of and select files in a variety of ways. You can generate file trees organized by year, genre, artist or album, and you can search for specific titles.

Playlists and podcasts can be sorted by source.

This software includes tools for transferring music to an iPod, and for playing and burning CDs. A context browser displays information about the track currently being played, including cover image and lyrics.

With this software you have the capability to freely define the layout of the user interface components, which includes superimposing components, and using tabs to bring components to the foreground.

There is a videoclip applet for searching for video clips on the Internet and playing them. There is also a photo applet for displaying the photos of the artists whose music is currently playing.

With the toolbar you can enable mouse wheel control of the fast forward and backward functions. Amarok automatically connects to external storage devices, such as USB drives. More information and download links can be found on the Amarok home page.
