How to Understand ANSI Numbering Systems

    • 1). Remember that each ANSI number represents an electronic element such as a detector, resistor or conductor.

    • 2). Boot up the ANSI hardware in the correct sequence. Professional schematics generally require many electronic elements and incorrect elements will render the entire circuit unusable. Some devices have to be used in proper sequence or the circuit will fail.

    • 3). Review the schematics carefully when looking for items identified by ANSI codes. Items such as switch contacts and detectors are commonly used in schematics and must be memorized, as they are typically represented by ANSI numbers on the diagram.

    • 4). Keep other devices in mind. The ANSI numbering system also has several other devices outside direct electronic equipment. Computer software and hardware also use the ANSI numbering system. These are components used to bridge the gap between circuits and in computer engineering.
