Yeast infections are bothersome, annoying, and can get a bit uncomfortable, but are something that just about every woman will have to deal with at some point.
While prevention is generally the best practice, there are numerous solutions for overcoming the problem and many involve simple "home remedies" that require little time and effort, while maintaining privacy.
Although it is generally advised to stick to more "natural" cures and remedies, we'll look at one of the more popular pharmaceutical solutions in addition to some of the popular natural methods.
Garlic: Not just effective at warding off characters from a Twilight movie, garlic has proven to be very effective at fighting yeast infections.
The reason why garlic is number one on this list is because it is effective both when it is applied as well as it is taken orally.
In terms of application a garlic pill can be inserted to the ailed region of the vagina sporadically over a few hours will provide the same relief that a diced garlic clove has if inserted in the same manner.
Not only will symptoms be relieved, but within a few days, the infection itself should begin to dissipate.
Garlic pills and cloves can also be consumed (it is recommend that something be taken with the cloves in order to make the taste and stench a little easier to withstand) for similar relief.
Yogurt: Another interesting, yet effective solution, is yogurt.
As most of us know, yogurt is made up of generally harmless bacteria.
These bacteria are, however, not harmless to yeast and are effective at fighting it, relieving yeast infection symptoms while fighting the infection itself.
While it is somewhat beneficial when consumed orally, it is better when applied to the ailed area.
Dipping a tampon in yogurt and then inserting it for a couple of hours should greatly aid in your recovery.
However, keeping the tampon in for an extended period of time may lead to INCREASED irritation, so be mindful to remove them and to take breaks in between applications.
Also, only PLAIN yogurt should be used as sugar in other yogurts will actually help the yeast to grow and possibly spread.
Monistat: Monistat is a very popular, non-natural cure for yeast infections.
It can be purchased without a perspiration at any drug store and is available at 3 different levels of concentration (Monistat 1 for a large, one-day application, Monistat 3 for a less concentrated three-day application, and Monistat 7 for a lightly concentrated weeklong application).
Monistat is a purely topical treatment and does not include taking any kind of oral pill or tab.
The Monistat website actually provides other kinds of creams and ointments that, when combined with any of the above-mentioned products, can provide relief for specific symptoms.
When addressing your possible yeast infection and the ensuing symptoms, be sure to contact your healthcare provider if your symptoms worsen or if you think that you may have something else.
Otherwise, the "big three" listed in this article should provide quick and effective relief.
