- Avant-garde architecture is part of the Barcelona package.Port Moll Barcelona 03a image by Arnim Schulz from Fotolia.com
There are five Silken hotels in Barcelona, but you wouldn't be able to tell that they're from the same family. Though they tend to lean toward contemporary décor, each Silken property is distinct to reflect its neighborhood's architecture or general vibe. Since Barcelona is known for its visionary buildings and structures, expect its five Silken hotels to deliver some of that character. - The Agbar Tower serves as a compass for many Barcelonans.barcelona y su torre image by aDj Design from Fotolia.com
Designed by star architect Juli Capella, the building façade is notable for its protruding white "boxes," denoting special rooms. The interiors play fast and loose with retro styling and sharp contrasts. The rooms are minimalistic and modern, with plenty of natural light leaking in. For a relaxing day, hang out on the rooftop where you can work on your tan by the pool. In the evening, dine at the Piano Restaurant, where chef Jon Irigoyen experiments with Basque and Catalonian cuisine. The hotel is located right next to the Agbar Tower, the city's most famous skyscraper.

Though the interior design is rooted in modernism, it remains warm and inviting with the help of wooden surfaces and furnishings. The Arts & Claus mural in the lobby adds a personal touch. Guests will be happy to know that the hotel is only an eight-minute subway ride from the city center.

Because it's at the heart of the action, you'll probably spend most of your time out and about. However, if you're up for a night it, grab a Mediterranean bite at Ébano Restaurant. The hotel's rooftop pool is the perfect place to unwind or have a couple of leisurely drinks with friends. Fitness buffs will appreciate the gym and sauna.

The rooftop boasts an impressive terrace and pool, all designed for scenic people-watching. There's also a breathtaking circular hall, seemingly created for the sole purpose of taking your breath away. This is the place to be if you're an architecture aficionado.
