Some people use a citrus repellent which is clearly derived from the potent anti-pest effects of citronella.
To create a citrus repellent for your pet, cut up a lemon and place in a pot.
Cover the lemon pieces with boiling water and let it steep overnight.
The next day transfer the liquid into a spritzer bottle and you now have flea repellent.
Spray your dog or cat all over remembering to pay special attention to behind the ears and around the head, around the base of the tail and under your dog's "armpits".
Be careful of your dog's eyes when spraying.
Repeat this treatment every 3-4 days.
Other people claim that an aromatherapy repellent works wonders as an all natural flea repellent for their pets.
Use 10 ml.
of sweet almond oil as your base and add 10 drops of lavender and 5 drops of cedarwood.
Shake the mixture well and spread 1 or 2 drops over the skin.
Repeat this treatment at least twice a week.
Last but not least, a natural flea collar can be made by rubbing a few drops of eucalyptus oil, Tea Tree Oil, citronella, lavender or geranium essence on to your pet's ordinary rope or webbing collar or even his or her bandanna.
Re-apply the oil or essence every week.
