What"s Better Ocean Wave Energy Generation, or Wind Turbine Power?

There seems to be a huge push in the world towards wind power, and when people talk about eco-innovations, and alternative energy inventions, they often talk about solar and wind power in the same breath, but they aren't the same, except for the fact that neither is really truly reliable energy.
It seems almost ridiculous to me to put forth a huge amounts of dollars in research for solar and wind technologies knowing that they are currently inefficient, and unreliable.
Indeed, I think it was a Nobel Prize winner who made a joke once in a seminar I attended; he said that "the sun notoriously doesn't shine at night" - and everyone laughed, and then he said but it's generally a little windier at night and therefore when you put solar and wind together as alternative energy sources they balance each other out.
This is complete and utter hokum, and I'm not sure what some of these academics are smoking, but it seems that the environmental crowd has somehow got into their brain that solar energy and wind generation is the way to go into the future, it's not.
You see, the reality is that water is 750 times denser than air, therefore if you collect the ocean wave energy and realize that most Americans live within 50 miles of the coast, you could power up most of our civilization off of the waves that are continuous.
The waves in the ocean don't stop, the wind often does stop, and the sun is definitely not out at night, that's true.
The other day, I was talking to an individual who claims to be very passionate about alternative energy and wind generation, although apparently he wasn't passionate enough to do his homework.
Just because you are passionate about something doesn't mean it will work, and yes you can "will" things to occur up to a point, but he didn't appear to listen when I asked the question about his wind generation eco-invention; "Do you have a version of this design for underwater energy generation - water is 750 times more dense than air?" And with that all I got was nothing more than a blank stare.
Amazing I tell you.
