How to Plan a Springtime Wedding
- 1). Pick your date, keeping in mind that spring has several holidays, such as Mother's Day and Easter, that will make the prices of vendors---especially florists---inflate their prices. Other Holidays such as Memorial Day may have family members heading out of town so you may want to steer clear of that, too. Beyond that, try to choose a date that has meaning to both of you, and when the weather will be warmer.
- 2). Book your reception hall and limousine early. Spring is one of the busiest wedding seasons, and it is prom season, so they will book up early. Start looking at the ones you like and narrow the choices as quickly as possible.
- 3). Select your theme and colors. Decide if you want to bring a green, nature look to your wedding by having your ceremony outdoors and adding a touch of green to your wedding colors. Adding classic in-season spring flowers, such as tulips, calla lilies, daisies, or roses, with a touch of greenery provides a refreshing, natural look. If you choose to achieve a more casual look, you can ask your florist to pair your flowers with your favorite rich fruits, like strawberries.
- 4). Choose your wedding gown and the bridesmaid dresses. Allow yourself to be more relaxed with lighter fabrics like lace or charmeuse. Feel free to enjoy cap sleeves or strapless gowns or choose a gown with floral embellishments or a colored sash to exhibit spring. For your bridesmaids, while pastel colors are traditional, you could choose a bolder hue a color, or choose a theme and have each bridesmaid wear a different color of your pastel rainbow. Higher tea-length dresses are very common in spring.
- 5). Select your invitations, picking a simple but fun design. Incorporate a traditional spring flower like a tulip, an engaging, colorful font, and a colorful ribbon to tie it altogether.
- 6). Plan your menu and select your cake. Start the night off with mini quiches and chilled soups, using in-season produce. Instead of traditional beef or chicken, consider serving an in-season rack of lamb, with fresh produce, such as baby carrots, or fresh asparagus. For your cake, consider using fresh strawberries, for a more upscale strawberry shortcake. With fresh flowers in season, ask your florist to coordinate with your baker and decorate your cake with a few fresh blooms.
- 7). Select your favors, keeping it with your theme. Consider giving guests, packets of flower seeds to grow in their own garden, with a ribbon that says, "Keep love blooming."
