How to Draw Japanese People
- 1). Draw the outline of the face. It can be a simple circle or oval at the beginning stage of this project, to which you'll add details later.
- 2). Draw a soft, easily erasable line across the face on which the eyes will rest. It should curve a little bit, to follow the natural slope of a face.
- 3). Place the eyes on the line, again following the slope of the face. Japanese eyes will be a little wider than other races, given the epicanthic fold, but bigger than their Asian counterparts. (Not "big" like the anime-style, of course, if your drawing is going to be realistic.) If it helps you, draw easily erasable vertical lines in equal distance from the center of the face to maintain symmetry. The eyebrows will lie just above each eye in a thin line. Erase both the horizontal and vertical placement lines you drew earlier.
- 4). Craft the nose below the eyes, allowing for a smoother and higher bridge than you would normally draw. You may want to sketch this lightly in pencil and go over it with broader strokes later once you're satisfied with the results. A smoother, higher bridge will give the Japanese face face you're drawing a slightly more pronounced nose than other Asian faces.
- 5). Set the mouth of the face, centered below the nose. Lips vary greatly from person to person, including Japanese people, so draw them as you please.
- 6). Draw the finer contours of the face, setting the higher part of the cheekbones close to the eyes so they're featured prominently. Don't make the line so heavy they stick out unnecessarily; add just enough definition to highlight them gently.
- 7). Finish the face, drawing the hairstyle and other details of your choice. Japanese people traditionally have straight black or dark brown hair, but this can also be changed by hair products, curling irons and hair coloring.
