The Insane Fear Of Fixing A Clogged Toilet
I would call my mom to take care of it when I was living at home.
Then, when I got married, my wife would take care of it.
I finally took a chance and learned to do it myself when my toilet got backed up due to excessive toilet papers.
So, it's no longer a big deal to fixing a clogged toilet nowadays.
Removing a clogged toilet requires patience.
One of the most important tools you'll need is a heavy duty plunger with dual flap.
Don't buy the cheap single fold plunger because it has no force.
You'll totally regret it.
It's only a few bucks more.
Did you know when you call a plumber to do this job; it'll run you about $100 for a short visit? So, go get the tool.
To seriously fix an overflowing toilet, wait till the water drains which may take about 30 minutes.
Now, take the heavy duty plunger with the dual flap open and insert it directly into the toilet hole.
This step is going to require some force to push and pull the plunger continuously for about 10 times without taking out the plunger.
If all goes well, you have now unclogged a clogged toilet and on your way to being an expert.
If not, repeat the above steps about 2 to 3 times.
For the next critical step, I immediately use a bucket of warm water from the sink and pour it directly into the toilet to remove any excess junk.
Then I flush again to make sure everything is flowing smoothly.
Now, if your situation is very serious and the above steps have not budged, you will need to take a trip to the hardware store.
Ask them for a toilet auger which is another name for toilet snake.
It resembles a huge whip coated with rubber to avoid damaging the pipes when its being thrust to retrieve items like hairs and toys.
I don't have any real experience in using a toilet auger except for the watching the demonstrations on YouTube.
A toilet auger is not costly and is a wise investment which pays for itself many times over once you have a clogged toilet.
It's going to cost a bit of a mess in your bathroom as you use it, but you can easily clean up afterwards.
Stick the end of the snake with the metal spring into the toilet pipe and slowly with your hand holding the handle wiggle with it till you get to a clogged area.
Then slowly drag the snake out and discard it the item you pulled out.
Repeat the process several times till you have gotten out everything.
For a long period, my solution to fix a clogged toilet without a plunger was to go to Pathmark and buy the latest Drano or Liquid Plumbers to unclog my toilet.
These products never did work once for me.
It took me awhile to learn the lesson that these chemicals were actually harming my pipes.
I probably wasted about $100 in chemical solutions before learning how to use a plunger.
I hope that learning how to fix a clogged toilet is no longer a mystery to you as it was once for me.
The toilet plunger and toilet auger tools can easily be bought at your nearest hardware store.
I would avoid wasting money by using any kind of harsh chemicals on your pipes.
If the situation still exists, please do contact a plumber.
Avoid being penny wise and pound foolish.
