How to Restore the Luster in Wood Floors
- 1). Vacuum the corners and crevices of your floors with a soft-brush attachment on your vacuum hose. Use the vacuum under the furniture and alongside the baseboards. Remove any dust and dirt that can scratch the surface of the wood.
- 2). Clean the floors with a non-residue cleaner. Mix together ¼ cup of white wine vinegar with 1 qt. of warm water. Dip a sponge or clean towel into the bucket and wring it nearly dry. Wipe the wet towel over a small section of the floor at a time and immediately use a dry towel to dry the floors. Do not allow the water to stand.
- 3). Buff the floors with a buffer to restore shine. If it does not, apply a renovator, which is a polyurethane coating.
- 4). Apply the polyurethane in long, thin coats, using a brush or a lamb’s wool applicator. One gallon should cover approximately 500 square feet. Allow the area to dry for at least eight hours and apply a second coat. Allow each coat to dry eight hours before you walk on the floors.
