There are many reasons why someone might snore. Sometimes a physical problem can cause the airways
of the nose and mouth to be pinched or closed off, and this causes all sorts of noises that we call snoring, from gasping, wheezing, choking, and snorting. Fortunately there are some excellent natural cures for snoring. In this article I am going to talk about some of the most common causes of snoring in general and how to battle them.

A condition called sleep apnea, where the airway is actually cut off so much that breathing stops, can cause a person to snore and choke throughout the night. Some are just naturally deep breathers, and if their mouth falls open during the night, those long deep breaths can be mistaken for snoring.

For many, it may be an environmental issue, such as very dry air, pollutants, pollen, and other elements in the air that get caught in the throat and cause it to tickle. Those snoring sounds can be a person trying to clear those irritants out of their throat while they sleep.

But sometimes it's something that the person is doing themselves that causes the snoring. A few bad habits or lifestyle choices can bring about the circumstances that will cause the person to snore.

As with all the other causes of snoring, the things that a person might be doing to cause snoring are too numerous to list here. But there is one small habit that many people don't realize is even connected to snoring, and something that's all too common in many people's bedtime routine.

And it has to do with alcohol. That last glass of beer or wine before nodding off can actually be causing you to snore.

There are two reasons for this. One, drinking a lot of alcohol can cause you to sleep so deeply that it's unnatural. Especially when you pass out from drinking are you in a dangerous state. And when you sleep too deeply, the body cannot regulate its breathing the way it normally can, drawing in breaths that are too deep and gasping.

The other connection between alcohol and snoring is that alcohol dries out the mouth and the throat. Many times snoring is caused by the throat being overly dry, and when air passes over it during breathing, this dry tissue vibrates loudly. Having even just one drink can be enough to dry a person's throat this way.

So keep this in mind if you have a problem with snoring, and also enjoy that last glass before going to bed. Move up your last drink to at least two hours before bedtime, and be sure to rinse your mouth out with some plain water so as to get the alcohol residue out.

There's really nothing wrong with having a nightcap and of course it's a personal decision, but there is a connection between alcohol and snoring, so be aware of this and make what adjustments you can. After all, you deserve a good night's sleep!
