How to Enlarge a Hole in a Marble Counter
- 1). Insert a diamond-tipped hole saw with the required diameter into a drill.
- 2). Tighten the drill's chuck onto the hole saw's shaft.
- 3). Position the hole saw on the counter, inserting the pilot bit into the current hole. The teeth of the hole saw should be in contact with the marble.
- 4). Trace the hole saw's outline with a grease pencil, giving you a visual border to stay within.
- 5). Squeeze the drill's trigger gently to score the new hole 1/8-inch deep in the marble. This will help to ensure that the saw does not jump while you are working.
- 6). Increase the drill's speed and cut through the marble, applying steady pressure. Periodically pull the hole saw back to clear the sawdust, and spray it with a water bottle regularly to prevent it from overheating.
- 7). Continue cutting through the marble until the hole saw breaks through the other side.
- 8). Sand the inner edge of the hole with 60-grit sandpaper if it will be left exposed. Resand with 120-grit, 200-grit, 300-grit and so on until you reach the desired level of smoothness and polish.
If the hole will be covered by a plumbing fixture, you can skip this step.
