Going Green With Your Child!

Rapid industrialization has led to numerous environmental problems on our Earth.
Global warming, animals becoming endangered, air and water pollution are just some of the few threats to mankind.
Nevertheless, there is a saying which goes "we are borrowing the Earth from our parents today and returning it to our children tomorrow" Hence, our children must be brought up with a "Green Mindset", a mindset whereby they can do their part to help conserve and save the Earth.
As parents, we should set a good example for our children.
Children do regard their parents as role models.
First and foremost, parents must do their part to explain the problems faced globally and how the child can do his or her part to save the environment.
Some of the methods include: oIt's a cliche but the 3 Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle still has a large part to play in environmental conservation! Use less aerosol sprays, reuse more plastic bags and recycle aluminum cans are just some of the ways.
oWater conservation.
As we all know, water is a scarce commodity.
Trying not to leave the tap running while brushing teeth, or flushing the toilet when necessary are possible methods.
oLesser cars on the road.
When the distance is short, walking should always be an option.
If not going public transport instead of driving helps reduce air pollution.
Car pooling or cycling is an alternative too.
oRechargeable batteries.
Well, my dad emphasized a great deal on this.
Not only the environment can be saved, it is also a cost effective solution oMore environmental awareness.
Another move which my dad implemented.
Watching more TV programs like Discovery Channel, National Geographic, or even watching the news or reading the papers will make a child more aware of the environment around him.
oBring your own bags.
When on shopping trips to the supermarket, bring along bags of your own instead of taking plastic bags from them.
There are a 1001 methods to save the environment, and one thing is for sure - it's never too late to start! Every single effort counts.
If every parent can do their part to educate their children, we would have many generations of environmentally conscious people, and that would be great!
