How to Clear a Criminal Record in Alabama
- 1). Contest your criminal record. If you were arrested in Alabama but not charged or found not guilty, you are entitled to have your arrest record expunged.
- 2). Download and complete the form on the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center website. This can be found under the "Citizens" "Can I?" tabs. On the left side of the screen, click on "Correct My Criminal History" and you will be directed to a four-page PDF form that includes a page for fingerprints. To complete the challenge section, page 4, attach copies of official documents that support the correct information. A $25 administrative fee in a cashier's check or money order must be made out to the State of Alabama and accompany the form.
- 3). Hire an attorney if you believe there is new information in your case or a procedural error occurred in your case that will reverse the original outcome. A reversal could lead to clearing your record.
