You may be able to drive through New Hampshire in four hours. However, if you are planning to really explore and get a local's perspective, check into a hostel and stay a while. Two hostels are located in White Mountain National Forest; another hostel is located five miles from one of the state's largest body of water, Lake Winnipesaukee. - The White Mountain Hostel is set in the beautiful picturesque town of Conway, with the White Mountain National Forest as a back drop. It's also known as the Albert Lester Memorial Hostel. The hostel offers both dorm rooms and private rooms. No room offers a private bath.
The hostel provides bed linens and does not allow sleeping bags. Towels are not included, but they can be rented. All visitors are required to remove their shoes inside, so bring a pair of slippers. There is a common living room and kitchen, and the hostel offers free Wi-Fi Internet access. Reservations are accepted up to one year in advance.

The hostel offers three separate heated and self-contained apartments. Each section includes bunk beds, linens, blankets, pillows, towels, a bathroom with tubs, a shower, eat-in kitchens with stove, a refrigerator, cooking pots, utensils, dishes and cable TV.
For those looking for a little more privacy, there are private rooms available. In addition to a good night's sleep, all visitors can start their day with a breakfast at Bruno's; it's located in the dining room.
