How to Glaze With Black
- 1). Add a small amount of black paint to clear acrylic varnish, also called polymer (gloss) medium or matte medium, using the ratio of one part paint to ten parts varnish.
- 2). Mix with the paint brush, adding paint or varnish until you reach the desired level of opacity or blackness. Adding retarder will slow the drying process and give you more time to work with your glaze.
- 3). Dip your brush into the glaze mixture and brush it across the surface of your painting. Do not overlap brushstrokes. If you want to add a second coat, wait for this coat to dry completely before applying it.
