    • 1). Line the inside of the crucible with boric acid. This powder helps prevent silver from picking up any dust or debris that might be present inside the crucible.

    • 2). Put on your safety glasses and gloves. Insert the silver you want to melt in a heat-resistant container and place the container inside the crucible.

    • 3). Insert the crucible containing the silver into an electric or gas-fired kiln and heat it to about 1,650 degrees Fahrenheit. The silver will start to melt at 1,435 F and will completely melt at about 1,635 F. Sterling silver, which contains copper, melts completely at 1,650 F.

    • 4). Switch off the kiln once the silver is completely melted. Quickly take out the container of silver from the kiln using long tongs. Pour the melted silver immediately into an ingot mold and allow it to cool and solidify again.

    • 5). Once solidified, the newly melted silver can be hammered and pressed into whatever shape you like and can be used for various purposes.
