Funny Ways to Change Your Name
- Most rock fans know that musician Frank Zappa named his first daughter Moon Unit. His second daughter, born in 1979, is named Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen Zappa. Other notable random celebrity baby names include Pilot Inspektor (son of actor Jason Lee) and Sparrow James Midnight (son of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden.) Choose a bunch of random words--it's best to keep each at one or two syllables--and start combining.
- While random names can be funny, it's even funnier when your funny name spells something out. How about Duane Pipe, Bob Apple, or Holly Mackerall? In "The Simpsons" Homer found status when he changed his name to Max Power. Marshall Law will make you sound tough, while Lou Pole might get you out of a tight spot. Everyone will think you're sweet when your driver's license reads Marsha Mellow.
- Everybody wants to meet Shaquille O'Neal. Shaquille O'Neal is never refused a table at a hot restaurant, a guest ticket to a sporting event, or pride of place at a fancy dinner party, so why not change your name to Shaquille O'Neal? People might be disappointed when you show up instead of the 7'1" basketball star, but they'll still love telling their friends that they met you.
- Even "John Smith" sounds more interesting when it's "Sir John Smith." You can buy a title online from aristocratic seats in England, Scotland and even Eastern Europe. It will set you back around $150 and won't earn you any clout with the real royals, but being "Lord Kevin" might give you a better shot at being someone's Prince Charming.
- David Bowie had the right idea when he named his son Zowie. There's something funny about rhyming name --how about Sam Jam, or Grace Place? An Australian media personality legally changed her name to Felicity Electricity. Just don't inflict a rhyming name on someone else without their permission. In 2008, a New Zealand court ruled that a nine-year-old girl named "Tallulah Does the Hula from Hawaii" was entitled to change her name, even though her parents refused to sign the paperwork.
