How to Draw Hurricane Winds & Palm Trees

    • 1). Draw the horizon of your picture. Hurricanes usually begin at sea, so draw a line three quarters of the way down the page to create your horizon. Above the line draw bubbled lines to represent the clouds of the storm. In the center of the bubbled cloud lines draw a circle with a small circle inside to create the eye of the storm. From the eye draw small spirals down to the horizon line to represent a tornado.

    • 2). Draw a sandy bank underneath your horizon line. On the right hand side of the paper, draw three palm tree guideline shapes and on the left draw two. When creating a basic palm tree guideline, draw two bent lines that reach to a point. The shape will almost look like stretched triangles. This is the trunk of your palm tree.

    • 3). Draw circular coconuts at the top of three of your tree trunks. Do not draw this on all of the palm trees. In a storm picture, some palms should be missing their coconuts.

    • 4). Draw the fronds of your palm trees. The palm tree fronds will bring your picture to life. Draw six slim, oval-shaped fronds on each tree that either point extremely to the right of the picture or to the left. You can try drawing all your leaves blowing in the same direction, but the violent winds of a hurricane typically swirl in all directions.

    • 5). Define the palm tree fronds. Within each oval shape, draw a line through the center to create the main branch and draw several pointed long leafy lines on each side. Draw a few leaves that have flown off the trees separate from the branch to show the strength of the wind.

    • 6). Draw separate lines around the trees to represent the gusts and movement of the wind. Follow the lines of the tree's movements for these gusts. To draw wind gusts, try drawing two lines close together, rounded off with a clouded bubble shape.

    • 7). Outline the lines of your drawing and erase any drawing lines. Color in your stormy landscape. Add lightning bolts and crashing waves.
