Tom Cruise, 42, and Katie Holmes, 26, are officially engaged. Cruise popped the question in one of the most romantic cities in the world, Paris, France.
In France to promote "War of the Worlds," Cruise told reporters, ""It's definitely love and France. I've never felt like this before. She's an extraordinary woman and I love her very much. My family is doing well and I'm just very happy. Then you come to Paris ...

But it's definitely Katie."

Cruise and Holmes went public with their relationship in April 2005. While some dismissed the romance as a publicity stunt to promote "War of the Worlds" and "Batman Begins," Cruise and Holmes have been anything but private about their feelings for each other. Holmes recently told me in an interview to promote "Batman Begins," "He is the most amazing man I?ve ever met. The smartest, the most generous. Other than that. Amazing. I love him."

The two stars have been traveling together doing publicity for both of their movies and not shying away from the media spotlight. Cruise hung out in the Beverly Hills hotel where Holmes was doing interviews for "Batman Begins," and the Holmes/Cruise romance grabbed the attention away from "Batman Begins" at that film's Hollywood premiere.

Commenting on his choice of Paris to propose marriage to Holmes, Cruise said, "I've never been to the Eiffel Tower. It's Paris, it's a beautiful city, it's very romantic."

Cruise has been married twice before.

His marriage to Mimi Rogers ended in 1990 and he and Nicole Kidman called it quits in 2001. Holmes has never been married however immediately before starting a relationship with Cruise, she was in a long-term relationship with "American Pie" actor Chris Klein.
