How to Use a Tow Strap

    • 1). Look under the car near the axle and locate one of the small holes in the frame. This is where you place the hook of the tow strap. These small holes are required to be on every American made car and most foreign models, and are usually located near the axle. Do this for both vehicles.

    • 2). Insert the hook of the tow strap in the opening on both the towing vehicle and the vehicle to be towed. Insure that the tow strap is not rubbing against any sharp metal surface on the frame or bumper as this may cause the tow strap to rip or tear.

    • 3). Drive with caution. It is not recommended that you exceed 25 to 30 MPH while towing a vehicle with a tow strap. The driver of the towing vehicle should drive slowly and use caution when applying pressure to the gas pedal. Avoid quick starts and stops. The driver of the towed vehicle should avoid riding the brakes as that can cause unnecessary stress on the car doing the towing.
