    • 1). Fly into Phoenix International Airport and travel north on Interstate 17 to Exit 287 toward Cottonwood, Arizona. State Highway 260 becomes Alternate 89 at Cottonwood and continues west to Clarkdale. Take South 11th Street through the town until reaching Tuzigoot Road, which travels through the monument.

    • 2). If driving instead, go into Flagstaff on Interstate 40 from either the east or west and at the interchange take Interstate 17 south toward Phoenix. Take Exit 287 and apply the aforementioned directions.

    • 3). Opt to drive Alternate State Highway 89 south out of Flagstaff. This route travels through Oak Creek Canyon and the town of Sedona--a very picturesque drive indeed.

    • 4). Inquire in the visitor center about the Sinaguans and their descent from the Navajo and before, to the ancients, or Anasazi.

    • 5). Dine nearby at either Clarkdale or Cottonwood. While there may be one or two fast food franchises represented, indulge instead in the fare of the area cafes. Enjoy the camaraderie of the locals. Only one or two motel franchises are represented in the two towns, but again, a visitor can surely fine a clean room in the area and one more affordable.

    • 6). Indulge in nearby Sedona, where premiere resorts and five-star restaurants abound. The resorts generally have rooms available in the off season, and at cheaper rates.

    • 7). Buy in to the notion that the area is recognized as a vortex site; one of the few special places on the planet where energy forces meet and assist souls in spiritual and meditative rejuvenation. Whether accepting or rejecting this belief, please show respect. To many living here, the concept of vortexes has become an adoptive religion.

    • 8). Camping is available further north along Oak Creek Canyon. Tuzigoot provides no campgrounds, but Oak Creek is less then 30 minutes away.
