Ear ringing tinnitus is a collection of symptoms of illnesses and ailments that have one thing in common: the sufferer hears a noise for prolonged periods, often a lifetime.
In most cases the noise is constant and will never go away.
The tinnitus noise can be soft and barely audible.
You'll hardly notice it as you go about your daily activities.
For others the noise can be loud like a scream.
And, it goes on and on, day and night, day after day.
And, the worst part is you know it will never go away.

For many, the unrelenting noise is a constant tone like a musical note.

Still others hear a ringing like an alarm clock at all hours of the day and night.

And, why do these more than 50 million Americans suffer this way? Often, like William Shatner, it's because of a momentary event, like being too close to the special effects explosion that started Shatner's screeching tinnitus.
For others, it's repeated loud noises or music that eventually builds up to cause tinnitus.
