The city has a plethora of places to explore. The ancient city has been home to several civilisations over its vast and varied past. Previously known as Constantinople the region has seen the rise and fall of many sultans and great empires, which is why the city is so interesting to visit.

With so many things for tourists to see and do it is no wonder people flock to the region in search of culture, shopping and great food. Like many of the areas in Turkey there is a magnitude of food on offer, varying from the usual Turkish treats to regional takes on popular dishes from across the world. The area has been home to a great number of people from both surrounding regions and other places around the globe, after all. And this can certainly be tasted in the tasty treats of the region.

With both Christianity and Islam being practised in the country over the years, a trip to the city is the chance to explore the history of both religions in the region. The Blue Mosque in particular is a great place to start as it will give you an introduction into both the Ottoman sultans and the religious habits of the region. In many cases sultans in the region created these massive and incredibly lavish Mosques and palaces so that their legacy would live on.

With palaces like Topkapi still shining to this day they certainly did a good job of securing their legacies. The palace of Topkapi is a stunning example of Ottoman architecture and with one of the largest diamonds in the world housed here it is certainly worth visiting. The palace features high ceilings and beautifully decorated tiles adorning the walls. The size of the rooms is astonishing and with thrones gilded with pure gold you can gauge the power and wealth of these great individuals.

With an impressive history you can sometimes become distracted by the sheer weight of the cultural importance of this city. But there is also a modern city which thrives below its ancient fa§ade. The bazaar is one of the busiest places in the city and with hundreds of products on offer you can usually pick up a bargain. The city is famous for its pashminas and many people visit the city to pick up inexpensive garments.

The city is one of the most exciting places in the world, with hundreds of things to do and see you can get lost in the streets, sample many Turkish delights and explore the ancient city of Constantinople, all on a jaunt to Turkey.
