Getting the larder ready for the winter is a custom which has been preserved over the years and every housewife should know how to do this.
In order to have healthy cans, which preserve your food for a longer period of time, you can use cellophane for tying them up and your success is guaranteed.
Tying your jars with cellophane is one of the most ancient sterilization methods used, so here are some rules or pieces of advice you might want to know about when it comes to such an operation.
First of all, you need to put the cellophane in two layers and it has to be two or three centimetres wider than the neck of the jar.
Then, you soak the cellophane with water and you fasten them to the neck of the jar in such a way that all the air is eliminated and that they fit the jar.
You put one hand on the cellophane and one hand on the string and tie it up.
You should also choose some very resistant string so that your food remains protected for the rest of the winter.
Also, you should know that you have to soak the string, too, so that it becomes more elastic when you tie it and so that it is tighter once it dries.
Then, your cellophane mustn't be wrinkled because otherwise, it will become thinner and crack when you boil the jars.
Having these in mind, you can now proceed in tying up your jars for the winter, so that you have enough provisions when you can't find any of the aliments you want on the market.
