How to Draw an Ear Cropping
- 1). Take a photo of your dog and lay a sheet of tracing paper over it.
- 2). Trace the outline of the dog lightly with your pencil, but do not trace the ears. Include the eyes, snout and mouth. Add any rendering if you like, but it's not necessary.
- 3). Turn the tracing paper 270 degrees so that what you've drawn on it so far is upside down. Align the top of the dog's head in the drawing with the top of the dog's head in the photo. The photo, therefore, should be facing you in the right way and the drawing should be upside down and backward. Make sure that some of the tracing paper still covers at least the head of the dog in the photo. Doing this lets you trace the ears in the photo onto the tracing paper so that the ears in the tracing paper stand up from the dog's head rather than flop over the head.
- 4). Trace the outline of the dog's ear in the photo onto the tracing paper. Doing this creates ears on the tracing paper that stand up in relation to the dog's head.
- 5). Turn the traced drawing the right way and remove the photo.
- 6). Repeat this process using photos from different angles. Include a profile and the front of the dog. This will help you get a better idea of how your dog would look with cropped ears.
