- 1). Cut a 20-inch by 28-inch rectangle from a large piece of fabric and use the cutout to make a second rectangle from the same fabric.
- 2). Place one of the rectangles on top of a piece of waterproof fabric and use the rectangle to make two identical rectangles from the waterproof fabric.
- 3). Place the fabric rectangles on a large working surface with the good sides facing downward. Place each of the waterproof fabric rectangles on top of each of the fabric rectangles and pin the four sides together for each rectangle. Sew the rectangles together to join the inside and outside fabrics for the diaper bag.
- 4). Lay the joined rectangles on top of each other with the waterproof rectangles on the inside. Pin three of the sides together, leaving one of the 28-inch-long sides open. Sew the three pinned sides to make the bottom and sides of the diaper bag.
- 5). Turn the bag right-side-out and fold over ¼-inch of fabric at the open side to make a clean edge. Sew the folded fabric in place.
- 6). Open a zipper and pin one side to each of the open edges of the top of the bag. Pin the zipper to the inside of the bag, with the good side of the zipper facing outward toward the outside of the bag. Sew the zipper to the bag.
- 7). Cut two 12-inch squares from a piece of the same fabric used for the outside of the bag.
- 8). Pin three sides of each square to the front of the bag, near the bottom. Leave the top side of each square open to make pockets.
- 9). Sew the three sides of each square to the diaper bag.

Cut a 24-inch-long by 4-inch-wide piece of fabric from the same fabric as that used for the outside of the bag. - 11
Fold the strip of fabric in half to make a 24-inch by 2-inch long rectangle. Pin the fold in place and sew the long edge and the two short edges in place. - 12
Pin the short ends of the fabric strip to the top sides of the bag and sew them in place to make a strap for the diaper bag.
