How to Block the Internet on a Router
- 1). Point your Internet browser to the router's configuration webpage. Type in the router's IP (Internet protocol) address into your browser's address bar and press "Enter." Common IP address for home users of Linksys, Belkin, and other Internet routers include "192.168.1.1" and "192.168.0.1." Type in the user name and password to access the router's configuration page.
- 2). Click on the "Access Restrictions" section in your router's configuration page. This section allows you to create and modify Internet policies for the computers on your network.
- 3). Create a new policy to restrict Internet access to specific computers. Give the policy a simple name such as "Blocked Internet."
- 4). Choose "Enable" on the policy to confirm that you are setting the policy and that it is active. Select the "Deny" option to indicate that Internet access will be disabled for systems on the policy.
- 5). Choose the specific times and days of the week when Internet access will be blocked for specific computers; most routers have an option for "Everyday" if you want the Internet blocked at all times.
- 6). Click the "Edit List of PCs" or similar option to specify the MAC address (physical address) of the computer(s) on which you want to block the Internet. Input the MAC address of the computer and click "Save." The MAC address is the physical address of the computer's network card. Refer to the operating system's instructions to help find this. Windows users should open the "Network Connections," right-click on the "Local Area Connection," choose "status," and click "Details" in the "Support" tab to find the physical MAC address of a system.
- 7). Click "Save Settings" on your router's configuration setup page. This finalizes the process for setting the Internet-blocking policy, and you should receive a confirmation page telling you that changes were successful.
