Cradle Cap Treatment

Most babies come out with at least some hair on their heads, though there are some that are totally and completely bald.
Babies can come out with a full head of hair, only to have it all fall out and start to grow all over again.
Don't worry if this happens with your baby, as this is completely normal and happens quite often.
Another common thing that happens with newborn babies is cradle cap.
This is something that is not unusual, but you do want to find a good cradle cap treatment to get the problem under control.
Cradle cap is much like dandruff on adults.
It is excess skin that flakes off of the scalp.
In babies, this can be very thick and can look more like scales than skin.
It is not something that you can just peel off while it is dry or you are going to have one very upset baby.
That could even cause bleeding.
If you do not use a cradle cap treatment on any baby with this condition, it could cause ingrown hairs, or hold hair on the head that has actually fallen out.
Take care of it slowly but surely, and only as long as your baby is comfortable with your chosen treatment.
One way to do cradle cap treatment is to use a very fine toothed comb on the baby's head after a bath.
You already know your baby has very sensitive skin, so be extra, extra careful when you do this.
The skin should still be wet, and it should be wet for a bit so that you are sure the cradle cap is saturated.
The fine toothed comb can be used to very gently loosen the excess skin to remove the flakes.
It may come off in clumps or very slowly.
Remember, do not force it too hard or you could irritate your baby's soft and sensitive skin.
If your baby has cradle cap and you can not seem to get it to come off, you may have to try something that you may not think to use on a baby.
My pediatrician told me to use adult dandruff shampoo for cradle cap treatment.
Simply apply just a small amount over the affected area and allow to sit for a minute or two.
Make sure it does not run into baby's eyes, though it shouldn't unless you use way too much.
Then rinse and rinse again to be sure you got it all up, and the flakes should come up with a good towel drying or with the above mentioned combing technique.
Don't use this when baby is old enough to touch their head purposely, because they could drag the shampoo into their own eyes or into their mouth.
There are certainly natural remedies that you can try for a cradle cap treatment.
If you find that your baby has so much that you can't get it all, or that it simply will not remove easily and you are afraid you are going to hurt your baby, talk to your doctor.
Something as simple as saturating the hair and scalp with baby oil and then washing and combing may be the trick that works.
If not, your pediatrician may have some idea to help that have not been mentioned here.
